Richard Agar appointed Leeds Rhinos head coach
Richard Agar was called with a rolling 12-month contract as Leeds Rhinos’ new head coach for the 2020 season , after spending as manager.
Agar has been in temporary charge since Dave Furner was sacked in May, after Leeds lost 10 of the first 14 Super League games.
The France head trainer has since directed Leeds to seven wins from their succeeding 14 league matches and the Rhinos are set to finish eighth in the table.
Agar said:”I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working on this team of players and helping them turn the corner this year.
”This is an outstanding golf club , both on and off the area, and it’s our responsibility over the coming years to once again challenge for honours over an ongoing period.”
Agar supported to Sky Sports that he held”positive” talks with club chief executive Gary Hetherington and director of rugby Kevin Sinfield following last Sunday’s triumph in London Broncos, which efficiently secured their Super League status.
After Agar’s appointment, Sinfield explained:”We are thrilled to have the ability to affirm Richard as our new Head Coach.
”The way he has conducted this season, during very challenging circumstances, has shown us that he is the perfect man for the task.
”We’re fortunate to have the ability to call upon one of their most experienced trainers in the game and importantly somebody who understands our players also understands the potential for the group of young men.”
The 47-year-old began working as the assistant of Furner when James Lowes abandoned the club in April for rugby union and took over on a temporary basis when the Australian was terminated.
The key goal of agar was to avoid relegation, which has been achieved with two matches in hand.
